{"id":885,"date":"2010-02-11T15:15:28","date_gmt":"2010-02-11T21:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=885"},"modified":"2010-02-11T15:15:28","modified_gmt":"2010-02-11T21:15:28","slug":"on-more-new-toy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=885","title":{"rendered":"Another New Toy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone who knows me has to realize that I love my toys.\u00a0 Well, yesterday I got another one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/T90A-HT.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-886\" title=\"T90A-HT\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/T90A-HT.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"330\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an Icom IC-T90A, tri-band band handheld radio.\u00a0 It puts out up to 5 watts on the 6m, 2m, and 70cm ham bands.\u00a0 It has a general coverage receiver from 495 KHz to 999.99 MHz (minus cell phone frequencies.)\u00a0 Full specs can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icomamerica.com\/en\/products\/amateur\/handheld\/t90a\/specifications.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I am just starting to learn how to operate it but already I know I really like it.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/T90A-HT2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-888 alignright\" style=\"width: 100px; height: 150px;\" title=\"T90A-HT2\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/T90A-HT2-100x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> It has (IMHO) only one drawback.\u00a0 The antenna is way huge!\u00a0 The antenna performs well but is a little awkward to carry on a belt clip or in a pocket.\u00a0 Fortunately there are after-market antennas which are more reasonably sized available for a low cost.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve already got all the local repeater frequencies programmed into it and I&#8217;ll be taking it with me often to see what sort of coverage I get in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Such fun!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone who knows me has to realize that I love my toys.\u00a0 Well, yesterday I got another one.
