{"id":853,"date":"2010-02-07T12:28:16","date_gmt":"2010-02-07T18:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=853"},"modified":"2010-02-07T12:28:16","modified_gmt":"2010-02-07T18:28:16","slug":"this-week-in-radio-contesting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=853","title":{"rendered":"A Week In Radio + Contesting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For those not too familiar with the hobby of Amateur Radio I thought I would do a post about what I&#8217;ve done on the air for the last week.<\/p>\n<p>In the table below are some of the stations I&#8217;ve contacted in the first week in February, 2010.\u00a0 Under &#8216;Mode&#8217;,\u00a0 CW means Morse code while USB (or LSB) means voice.\u00a0 The &#8216;Prefix&#8217; (working the same station twice) and checking for changing conditions on 5 or 6 different frequency bands.\u00a0\u00a0 When I was younger I would go for a whole contest weekend with 4\u00a0 hours or less of sleep a night.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure if I have that stamina now but I&#8217;ll give it my best try.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong> Well, for the personal challenge mostly.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a way to test your equipment and improve your operating skills.\u00a0 There is also the fact that scores are published and you can compare your performance with other amateurs.\u00a0 Finally, there are awards for the top scorers in their category.\u00a0 Here is a certificate I won 20 years ago and\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t done that well since.\u00a0 But I keep trying.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/DXcontestcertificate.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-866\" title=\"DXcontestcertificate\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/DXcontestcertificate.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For those not too familiar with the hobby of Amateur Radio I thought I would do a post about what I&#8217;ve done on the air for the last week.
