{"id":470,"date":"2009-01-22T12:26:55","date_gmt":"2009-01-22T18:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=470"},"modified":"2009-01-22T12:26:55","modified_gmt":"2009-01-22T18:26:55","slug":"medical-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=470","title":{"rendered":"Medical Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry this is late but real life gets in the way.<\/p>\n<p>I had my third chemo treatment on Monday.\u00a0 Nothing unusual happened but since some readers may be curious, I thought I&#8217;d add a brief post.<\/p>\n<p>The process\u00a0 of these chemo treatments is rather interesting.\u00a0 They take place in a large room with\u00a0 20 or more chairs for patients.\u00a0 A number of nurses scurry around attending to several\u00a0 patients each.\u00a0 People sit there while the medication slowly drips into their veins, or some just get a single injection.\u00a0 While waiting, snacks and various drinks (no alcohol \ud83d\ude41 ) are available.\u00a0 I usually listen to podcasts on my iPod.<\/p>\n<p>My treatments are about\u00a0 two hours long, others people&#8217;s can be three or more.\u00a0 I get three different chemo drugs plus an anti-nausea drug and saline drip.\u00a0 All-in-all it&#8217;s a rather dull, uninteresting process but I am fascinated by the range of people who are all there for the same reason.\u00a0 It is surprising that, with all these people suffering from cancer, they are, with few exceptions, all cheerful and smiling.\u00a0 I think it is because we feel we are actually doing something to help in our cure.\u00a0 Plus a positive attitude has been shown to increase the chances of a cure.<\/p>\n<p>My next treatment will be\u00a0 two weeks after this one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry this is late but real life gets in the way.
