Along with some old favorites, there were a number of unusual ones that showed themselves, probably due to this years odd weather.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">(<em>As always, click on the thumbnail to see a larger image<\/em>.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Eastern Tiger Swallowtail\" href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/easterntigerswallowtail.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-335 alignleft\" title=\"Eastern Tiger Swallowtail\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/easterntigerswallowtail-150x112.jpg\" alt=\"Eastern Tiger Swallowtail\" width=\"150\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This <em>Eastern Tiger Swallowtail<\/em> is a common butterfly around here but I&#8217;ve always loved their bright colors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/maplespanwormmoth.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-337\" title=\"Maple Spanworm Moth\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/maplespanwormmoth-150x112.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a <em>Maple Spanworm Moth.<\/em> They were very plentiful for a few days and loved to congregate on the siding of our house.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Angular-winged Katydid\" href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/angular-winged-katydid.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-340\" title=\"Angular-winged Katydid\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/angular-winged-katydid-150x112.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This <em>Angular-winged Katydid<\/em> was very comfortable posing on the arm of one of our deck chairs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/salamander.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-342\" title=\"Salamander\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/salamander-150x112.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a>One cool and damp morning Jan spotted and photographed  this <em>salamander<\/em> in the leaf litter and stones along our fence.  I hadn&#8217;t seen one of these around here before and was surprised it was so out in the open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/chinese-mantid.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-344\" title=\"Chinese Mantid\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/chinese-mantid-150x112.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a>A Preying Mantis (actually a <em>Chinese Mantid<\/em>) showed itself to Jan who took this nice picture.
