{"id":1374,"date":"2011-07-11T10:32:14","date_gmt":"2011-07-11T16:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=1374"},"modified":"2011-07-11T10:32:14","modified_gmt":"2011-07-11T16:32:14","slug":"storm-of-71111","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/?p=1374","title":{"rendered":"Storm of 7\/11\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night we were woken by the weather radio at about 3am and continued to get alerts for hours after.\u00a0 Around 5am the emergency warning sirens went off and Jan and I took to the basement. <a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Storm-Front-yard-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1375 alignright\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" title=\"Storm-Front yard 2\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Storm-Front-yard-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>We had very high winds, some say up to 80 mph.<\/p>\n<p>After the storm had passed our yard looked like a war zone.\u00a0 We lost at least 12 large pines, some 12&#8243; in diameter and ~40&#8242; tall. They were slapped down like they were balsa wood.\u00a0 Patio furniture was scattered all over the yard.\u00a0 The glass topped patio table is a twisted wreck with broken glass scattered around.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Favorite-Tree-Gone.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1376\" style=\"margin: 6px;\" title=\"Favorite Tree Gone\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Favorite-Tree-Gone-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>Our favorite tree, a maple just off our deck, was broken off 3&#8242; above the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The back yard was nearly as bad with many trees down and debris everywhere.<a href=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Back-Yard.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1379\" style=\"margin: 6px;\" title=\"Back Yard\" src=\"https:\/\/tom.hise.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Back-Yard-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are, at the moment, without power and I am running this PC off our generator which also allows us to keep the refrigerator and freezer cold (though we have to alternate power to one or the other.)\u00a0 The radio says 40,000 people in the area are also without power.<\/p>\n<p>The only damage to our house itself was some aluminum flashing that was torn off and a piece of siding pulled loose.\u00a0 All my antennas look intact (save one wire antenna hit by a falling tree) and my tower and outbuildings are also fine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thegazette.com\/2011\/07\/11\/photos-eastern-iowa-storm-damage\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here <\/a>is a link to pictures of other area places damaged in this storm.\u00a0 (Note: I don&#8217;t know for how long this link will be valid.)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll update if anything changes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night we were woken by the weather radio at about 3am and continued to get alerts for hours after.\u00a0 Around 5am the emergency warning sirens went off and Jan and I took to the basement.
